Lanhee is a leading U.S. public policy expert, political commentator, and former candidate for statewide office in California.
He co-leads Brunswick’s U.S. Public Affairs, Policy and Regulatory practice and advises businesses globally with a particular focus on the Healthcare and Life Sciences and Technology, Media and Telecommunications sectors.
Lanhee is currently a member of the AMTRAK Board of Directors and has served as a senior appointee across four U.S. presidential administrations, including at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services during the George W. Bush administration and a member of the Social Security Advisory Board during the Obama and Trump presidencies. He’s also been a policy and strategy adviser to three Republican presidential candidates, including service as the Policy Director to 2012 nominee Mitt Romney and a senior adviser to 2016 candidate Marco Rubio.
Additionally, Lanhee is the David and Diane Steffy Fellow in American Public Policy Studies at the Hoover Institution and Director of Domestic Policy Studies and Lecturer in the Public Policy Program at Stanford University. He is a contributing writer to the Opinion Page at the Los Angeles Times and is an NBC News Contributor, appearing regularly on Meet the Press.
Lanhee earned a Ph.D. and an A.M. in political science from Harvard University, his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School and an A.B. magna cum laude in government from Harvard College.
